If you look at the furnaces on offer from some of the main furnace suppliers you will see that the heat output can often be 200,000 BTU or more, a heat output which is fine if you are looking for a powerful furnace for a large house. However, if you are looking for a furnace for a small apartment or house you may find that such a high output furnace is too large, and it is therefore worth looking at some of the various types of small gas furnace that are now available, furnace sizes that are perfect to heat a small home while also giving high efficiency and excellent hot-water generation.

Small furnace prices will vary depending on the actual heat output of the unit and what type of accessories come with the furnace, such as a digital thermostat, programmable operation times and the type of venting outlets in use. However, it is possible to find a small gas furnace for around $3000 or less, and the economy is something which can be added to due to the fact that the smaller gas furnaces are much cheaper to run than the larger counterparts. This is especially true if you buy a high-efficiency small furnace, which often run that 95% efficiency and be an excellent way to cut fuel bills.

Some of the most high-efficiency small gas furnaces are the condensing gas furnace type, with some of these being able to burn fuel at over 95% efficient. When this is coupled with a water heater [a furnace for providing hot-water as well as the central heating] there can be great cost savings, since the furnace will only turn on when the central heating water falls below a certain temperature, and will keep on circulating the water until the temperature drops to a certain level, after which the boiler or furnace will turn on automatically. This type of furnace will cut back on the amount of fuel used, but will also help to save on wear and tear of the furnace, and will cut back on the need for furnace repairs, particularly the need to buy furnace valves, and the furnace burner.

A Small Gas Furnace Thermostat is Essential

Many small gas furnaces will now also include automatic thermostats and the digital control panel which will enable you to control the heat to within 1 degree increments. A good choice can be the Rheem Classic furnace, a unit which, as mentioned above, uses a two-stage heating process to save fuel while keeping the house warm. The way the technique works is for the furnace to run at around 75% in order to provide low heat, but then rise to 90% or more when the weather turns colder or when the central heating water temperature demands it.

The main thing to think about is how much heat you will need in your home, because it is no use buying a small gas furnace if they heat output is not sufficient. However, when you are looking to replace a furnace bear in mind that many of the modern furnace units now have such high-efficiency that even a small furnace can give enough heat [usually at least 150,000 BTU] for most average sized homes.
